Regional operations across Stockholm County

Arlanda in the north, Stockholm in the urban center, the southern logistics municipalities below it, and Nynäshamn on the coast. The north–south spine anchors our regional focus across Stockholm County. It is an intentional focus area, not an active coverage claim, because no commercial services are offered yet.

Section 01 — The regional spine

A defined regional spine within Stockholm County

Regional concentration is the structural advantage available to a focused operator. Concentrating on key corridors and municipalities preserves operational discipline rather than claiming an unmanageable county-wide footprint.

Schematic of the Karvan focus corridor in Stockholm County A north-to-south schematic. Arlanda at the north end, then Stockholm, then the southern municipalities of Södertälje, Huddinge, Botkyrka and Haninge, then Nynäshamn on the coast. A ferry route runs east from Nynäshamn. The diagram is schematic and not drawn to scale. The focus corridor runs north to south: Arlanda, Stockholm, the southern municipalities of Södertälje, Huddinge, Botkyrka and Haninge, and Nynäshamn on the coast, where ferry services depart. The diagram is schematic and shows a focus area, not a service area.

A national platform allocates work with a generic model and more data than any single operator will ever have. It does not beat someone who knows one route, one set of pick-up points and one daily rhythm properly. That is the whole of the regional argument, and it only holds while the area stays small enough to know.

Section 02 — Verified facts
About The region, not Karvan

What is verifiable about the corridor

These are facts about the places. None of them describes a Karvan activity, an agreement, or an affiliation.

Corridor conditions, from public regulator and operator sources
Location Condition that shapes an operator's options
Arlanda Picking up at the airport requires an agreement with the airport operator. The rank is eco-vehicle gated and the queue position is influenced by the vehicle's carbon dioxide level, so the vehicle decision and the airport decision are the same decision.
Stockholm Dispatch centrals and ride platforms both accept single-vehicle operators holding their own permit, on materially different terms. At least one central will pre-approve an operator before the permit is granted.
Southern municipalities Publicly procured journeys are split across contract areas with the explicit intent that smaller local operators can win a share, rather than awarding a county to one incumbent.
Nynäshamn Ferry traffic to Gotland and onward to Poland, plus cruise calls. The commuter-rail terminus sits roughly 400 metres from the terminal and cruise coach transfers are commonly included in the ticket — so the obvious demand is already largely served, and assuming otherwise would be the easy mistake here.

Sources are public regulator, port and operator material. Where a figure appears in two sources with two values, neither is published here.

Section 03 — Not claimed

What is not known, and not invented

Six things would normally appear on a page like this. None of them can be sourced, so none of them is here.

  • Trip volumes, fare levels or empty-running rates for any route in the corridor.
  • Hotel, hospital, business-park or logistics-zone demand patterns.
  • Seasonal and time-of-day demand curves.
  • Local delivery density anywhere in the county.
  • Whether any southern corridor is genuinely underserved.
  • Any market size, in any unit.

How this gets answered

Not by estimating it. Once live operational activity begins, every journey gets logged with origin zone, destination zone, hour, channel, gross, net and empty kilometres to the next pick-up. Four weeks of that answers all six questions for this corridor. Prior to active deployment there is no cheap, lawful way to get the same data, and a plausible guess published as analysis would be exactly the overreach this site exists to avoid.

Section 04 — Regulatory shape

The regulatory shape of the corridor

Passenger work and goods work look adjacent on a map and are separate regulatory stacks in law.

Carrying passengers for payment requires a taxitrafiktillstånd. Carrying goods for payment requires a yrkestrafiktillstånd — and Swedish law extends that requirement to light lorries and passenger cars with a maximum permitted weight of 3.5 tonnes, naming home delivery of food and parcels explicitly.

The consequence is concrete. Using one vehicle for passengers between peaks and parcels during them is not a clever efficiency; as stated it is two permits, two financial-standing tests and two transport-manager qualifications. Bicycle delivery sits outside the permit regime entirely, but the employment questions there are harder rather than easier.

In every case the transport manager must be the managing director, or failing that a board member appointed by the company — not a contracted third party. That single rule shapes who has to exist on the board before anything can start.
